Endou

Thick, coke-bottle lenses sit on his face, and his hair falls in wavy curls.

Reika Nishimura paints him as a laid-back, largely passive type and tags him an otaku. Day to day he plays the nuisance, ribbing his friend Motoki over his romance with her.

When the manga chapter opens, Endou is needling Motoki about Reika until she turns flustered, and he spots a peculiar man loitering by the game center. Motoki takes the stranger for the contact his father lined up to fill a part-time job and waves his friend onward. The stranger is in fact the corrupted Mamoru, who uses his power to make Endou dissolve completely, then plants the false memory in Motoki that Mamoru has always been his dear friend Endou. The swap startles Reika, and when she later paints the true Endou for Makoto and Ami, she calls him passive. Nobody learns whether he ever came back after the Dark Kingdom's fall.

Crystal repeats most of these beats, though here the villainous Mamoru simply brainwashes Endou before sending him away, which is still enough for Endymion to slip into his place. His name joins a character meaning distant or far with one meaning wisteria.
