Ichirou Ohno

Ichirou is an older gentleman whose hair has turned grey with age.

Once ruled by pride, Ichirou considered himself too accomplished to settle for a humble restaurant and chased prestige overseas instead. Years and reflection soften him into a remorseful man who recognizes his own selfishness and comes to treasure what he had cast aside.

Two decades earlier, Ichirou left Japan to train as a chef in France, walking away from his lover Mayako and the restaurant the two had dreamed of running. Just before his departure, Mayako had at last managed to buy the mansion she had long wanted, but he judged himself above opening an eatery inside it. Years afterward he returned home a famous name, yet could only stand and gaze at Mayako's mansion, unable to bring himself through the door.

It takes an attack by Hawk's Eye to push him into finally stepping inside. Facing what he had done, he admits his selfishness and realizes that across his celebrated career he never tasted anything finer than Mayako's stew. The two rekindle their bond and go on to open the Rokuten Restaurant together. In the writing of his name, Ichirou reads as one and son, while his surname Ohno joins characters for great and for field or wilderness.
