Lemures

In the manga and Crystal, Lemures take the form of small, dark, fuzzy, rounded creatures that swarm in large numbers. The anime versions instead resemble circus fixtures, showing up as clowns, jugglers, balloons, or balls, and their designs grow steadily sillier as the season rolls on.

These creatures embody nightmares. In the manga and Crystal they trap victims inside dreams, seize control of their minds, and siphon their energy, even draining whole crowds who attend Dead Moon performances. They can also conjure illusions, faking both people and entire locations. In the anime, a Lemure is summoned from a shadow only after a Dream Mirror has been pulled out, arriving to battle the Sailor Guardians; the Amazoness Quartet's versions swallow those mirrors through a mouth on the chest and release them unharmed. In the end, every last one is undone by Moon Gorgeous Meditation.

The Amazon Trio and the Amazoness Quartet call these monsters up throughout the SuperS run, and unlike most villains' creations they play no part in any larger scheme, appearing only to interfere with the heroines. Before their end they shout 'Stage Out.' A later revelation exposes their nature: they turn out to be living ghosts, the subjects of Queen Nehelenia whose dream mirrors she once took. When Eternal Sailor Moon uses the Eternal Tiare during the Sailor Stars season to give Nehelenia another chance, those subjects return to their kingdom with no memory of ever having been Lemures.
