Mistress 9

Before her full awakening, Mistress 9 simply borrows Hotaru Tomoe's young body. In that state she wears a purple long-sleeved top edged with frills along the arms and a very long, ruffled pale-lavender skirt, topped by a matching lavender collar. Black lines on the shirt converge at a small opening near the neck, where the Death Busters' black star sits, and an outsized red bow rides at the front of her waist. Once fully awakened she lets her extremely long black hair fall loose and straight down her back, her eyes turn black, and she takes on a long blue gown with beaded straps.

Once Germatoid takes hold of Professor Tomoe, the scientist selects his daughter Hotaru to serve as Mistress 9's vessel. To build her strength she requires Pure Heart Crystals, which is why Tomoe sets Kaolinite and the Witches 5 loose to hunt them down. Her influence over Hotaru's body stays limited at first, though she can black the girl out and seize control, driving her to violent acts she never remembers.

Under Tomoe's orders, Kaolinite and the Witches 5 keep chasing Pure Hearts, and after Sailor Moon secures the Holy Grail, Mistress 9 pushes for still more hearts to be gathered. As her power builds she wins greater command of Hotaru's body, culminating when Kaolinite helps her absorb Chibiusa's Pure Heart. That triggers her genuine awakening: Hotaru's body ages, her hair grows enormously long, and her clothing shifts into a sleek black-and-blue gown. Declaring Kaolinite has outlived her usefulness, Mistress 9 strikes her dead with a bolt of lightning.

When Sailors Uranus and Neptune assault her, Sailor Moon throws herself in the way to spare Hotaru, and Mistress 9 threatens to slay the two Guardians unless she is handed the Holy Grail. A newly freed Professor Tomoe appears, and Hotaru seems to surface, pleading for the Grail so she can return to normal. Uranus and Neptune sense a trap and warn against it, but Sailor Moon, feeling Hotaru is still present, joins Tomoe in giving up the relic. The ruse works: Mistress 9 uses it to call forth Pharaoh 90 and shatters the Holy Grail as she does so. Pharaoh 90 then turns on her, though Sailor Moon and Tomoe shield her, and Hotaru at last overpowers Mistress 9 with vivid memories of Chibiusa and her father, rousing the spirit of Sailor Saturn within and bringing about her destruction.

Even while confined to Hotaru's frame, Mistress 9 can force the girl to lose consciousness and seize her body, using her to carry out violent deeds. She drains and absorbs Pure Heart Crystals to feed her own strength and gains fuller control of her host as that power mounts. In her awakened state she wields lethal bolts of electricity, and by claiming the Holy Grail she is able to summon her master, Pharaoh 90, into the world.
