Princess Snow Kaguya

Her look shifts between media. The manga renders her almost entirely in white, the hem of her skirt fading into yellow, while the film gives her blue skin set off by a white headdress and skirt. She goes without a top, draped instead in a long trailing skirt, a see-through shawl, and an elaborate crown-like headpiece, and the crystal fixed to her skirt mirrors the shard of her comet.

For all her cruelty, Kaguya casts herself as a bringer of peace. She holds that by locking the world in ice she would lift from people the ache of loneliness and pain, and so deliver a flawless, tranquil realm.

Kaguya is a mighty alien of murky origin who sails from world to world aboard a comet, sheathing each planet in ice to add it to her hoard, with Earth the trophy she has always wanted most. Ages ago she tried to bury the planet in frost and was thrown back when the Silver Crystal melted the ice and spared it; forced away, she froze countless other worlds over the eons but never let go of her longing for Earth.

Returning in the modern day, she cannot act without a lost fragment of her comet and dispatches her Snow Dancers to hunt it down. The young astronomer Kakeru Ohzora finds the shard and keeps it in his observatory, where it binds to his life force and slowly drains him, leaving him gravely ill. Kaguya appears to reclaim it, and Kakeru, entranced, mistakes her for the fabled Princess Kaguya; taking back the shard only pulls him nearer to death, since his life is tied to it. She casts it into the sea, raises a colossal ice crystal to go on siphoning his energy, and sets about freezing the planet. Every attack the Guardians throw fails, until all nine channel the full power of the Silver Crystal to wipe out Kaguya, her Snow Dancers, the crystal in the ocean, and the comet at once.

Her command of cold is vast: she conjures frost, hail, blizzards, and killing chill, hurls rings of freezing energy from her hands, and unleashes an enormous blast from her torso, all of it magnified by the coveted comet crystal. She can fly, teleport, move objects with her mind, and endure the airless void of space unharmed. By her own account she was cast off the Earth some 4.5 billion years ago, which may make her the oldest figure in the whole franchise, and the tale hints it was the Silver Crystal that banished her, its bearers guarding the planet since its very birth.
