Takashi Hino

The manga presents him through his public standing rather than any detailed description, casting him as a prominent and influential politician whose careful image comes before all else.

Takashi is defined by ambition that leaves no room for warmth. He could not bring himself to sit with his ailing wife through her final decline, and once she was gone he handed Rei off to her grandfather so his career would stay unobstructed. What affection he shows is hollow and routine: each birthday he sends Rei an identical white dress and a bundle of casablanca lilies, gifts his secretary Kaidou actually chooses. The sameness of the gesture year after year reads to her as transactional and spineless, deepening her contempt.

He is Rei's father, husband of the late Risa Hino, and son-in-law to Grandpa Hino. Rei's resentment hardens over time as she recognizes that politics will always outrank his family. Once her mother died she gladly settled in with her grandfather and stayed there since. The strained bond only frays further with each repeated birthday offering, until, after Rei builds a circle of close friends to share her life with, she no longer bothers keeping up the yearly contact, and he seems just as content to let it lapse.
