Wiseman

Wiseman resembles a stylized human skeleton buried under a sweeping purple cloak. He is rarely if ever seen without it, and the garment hides nearly all of him, leaving only his hands exposed. Those hands mix murky blacks with red, orange, and green, and they almost always cradle a large, swirling crystal orb. Now and then his eyes can be glimpsed flaring beneath the hood.

In the thirtieth century, Wiseman set his sights on flooding Earth with total darkness and loosing the Death Phantom upon it. When Neo-Queen Serenity drove the Black Moon Clan off the planet, he seized the chance to advance his aim, quietly steering the clan's members by feeding their hatred of Earth, their thirst for revenge against Serenity, and their urge to raze Crystal Tokyo. Prince Demande held nominal command, but Wiseman worked him from behind.

He directed the clan to assault Crystal Tokyo, leveling all of it but the barrier-shielded Crystal Palace. Learning that Sailor Pluto had spirited Chibiusa into the past, he and the clan followed her backward through time. In the present he set them hunting both the child they called the Rabbit and the Silver Crystal, each a danger to his plan, while also resolving to conquer that era's Earth.

The Sailor Guardians gradually thinned the clan's ranks. After Esmeraude fell, Wiseman abducted Chibiusa and warped her into Black Lady, thwarting every attempt the guardians made to restore her. Saphir pieced together his real aims and moved to warn his brother, only to be struck down; he fled wounded to Earth but was hunted to his end. Demande likewise uncovered the truth and died fighting Wiseman. Meanwhile the Malefic Black Crystal, planted on Earth, swelled as it gathered the power to crack open a gateway for dark energy.

Once Black Lady amassed enough darkness to tear that portal wide, the final confrontation arrived. Sailor Moon rose as Neo-Queen Serenity and coaxed Black Lady back into Chibiusa, but the world had already begun sliding into shadow under Wiseman, who at last disclosed that he was the Death Phantom. Serenity answered with the Silver Crystal, joined by Chibiusa, whose own future Silver Crystal had become part of her, and by the rest of the guardians. Together their light erased the darkness and Wiseman with it.

Wiseman commands darkness, shadow, and chaos outright. He can hurl destructive energy in different forms, from broad white blasts, like the one that killed Saphir, to crackling black electricity flung at Sailor Moon and Chibiusa in the finale, and he keeps deft mastery of the Malefic Black Crystal. His crystal orb doubles as a scrying tool, showing him the future and distant happenings, which he uses to anticipate where Chibiusa will trigger her moonbeams.

His deadliest talent, though, is manipulation. He reads the hopes and longings buried in others and twists them, corrupting not just his own followers but Chibiusa herself and very nearly Usagi, warping their memories to turn them. He also proves hard to keep down: after Demande seemingly kills him, his floating orb draws a new body back together beneath the reforming cloak. Overcoming him ultimately demands both the present-day and future Silver Crystals along with the strength of the inner guardians.
