Zircon

Picture a tiny eyeball fitted with wings and ringed by fire, and you have Zircon. Most of the time it rests on the tip of Zirconia's long staff, yet it frequently floats away to carry out tasks of its own.

With no gender whatsoever and amounting to nothing more than a lone eye, Zircon is defined by what it does rather than by any character of its own. Its whole purpose is helping its mistress, and it never displays a will apart from that. For comic relief, the Amazoness Quartet are perpetually giving chase to it around the circus grounds.

Most of Zircon's days are given to reconnaissance for Zirconia, floating off from the staff to watch people and weigh who might carry a lovely dream capable of concealing Pegasus. It supplies its mistress with snapshots of these marks and seems able to photograph practically anyone. Within the anime, the eyeball and its mistress rank as the sole members of the Dead Moon Circus who are never redeemed and stay dead for good, the two of them undone the moment Queen Nehellenia emerges from her mirror. The creature turns up in the manga as well, during Act 39 of the twelfth volume, where its end, like Zirconia's, stays a mystery; there Nehellenia falls when Elysion, the heart of the Earth, hosts the final battle and Eternal Sailor Moon unleashes her Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss. The name itself points to the real gemstone zircon, long employed as a substitute for diamonds.
