Catch Pegasus: The Amazon's Trap

Inside the Dead Moon Circus, Zirconia silences the rowdy performers and hauls the Amazon Trio before her, furious that three attempts to seize Pegasus have all fallen apart. Hawk's Eye pleads for patience and promises that the three of them working as one can manage it. Back at the Amazon Bar, Tiger's Eye names his next mark, sliding over a photograph of Naru Osaka, an ordinary-seeming schoolgirl. He tries the direct approach first, chatting her up outside an ice cream shop, but she brushes past to join Umino, leaving him stunned that she would pick such a plain boy over him.

Mocked by his partners on his return, Tiger's Eye is ready to drop the whole idea until Hawk's Eye unveils his real plan. He shows them a cage engineered to catch Pegasus, explaining that although the winged horse has no solid form on Earth, the device conjures a pocket dimension where he can be held. The trick requires bait, a dreamer whose danger will draw Pegasus out, and Tiger's Eye swears Naru will play that part.

Spotting Naru browsing medical texts, Tiger's Eye poses as a dying young man with three months to live and begs her to be his girlfriend. Out of pity she agrees, then confides the story to the girls at Hikawa Shrine before leaving. On a bridge, a crushed Umino urges her to follow her kind heart and go with the stranger, then drowns his heartbreak in fifteen milkshakes that Chibiusa later spots him downing. When Tiger's Eye corners Naru in a park and moves to kiss her, she slaps him away, so he drops his disguise, pins her to a panel, and draws out her Dream Mirror as Luna looks on.

Alerted by Luna, Usagi and Chibiusa become Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon. Tiger's Eye marvels at how lovely Naru's dreams are yet finds no Pegasus within them, then unleashes the Lemures Otedamako, which hurls exploding balls and flaming bowling pins. Chibi Moon's Twinkle Yell summons Pegasus, but the cage proves useless when he simply passes through it untouched. Tuxedo Mask halts a barrage of knives, Moon Gorgeous Meditation destroys Otedamako, and Tiger's Eye withdraws. Naru is freed, and the girls watch Pegasus soar off. The next day she cheerfully brings the milkshake-sickened Umino yet another milkshake, drawing an anguished cry from him.

Written by Genki Yoshimura and directed by Yuji Endou, the episode premiered in Japan on March 25, 1995, and later reached North America on September 29, 2000, under the CWi dub title "Baiting the Trap." It marks the last time Naru Osaka and Gurio Umino feature in the television series, though the pair make their true final bow in the SuperS special Ami's First Love. In an animation slip, the three roses shown atop Otedamako's head vanish by the moment of her defeat, and the CWi dub trims the few seconds where Tiger's Eye leans in to kiss Naru.
