Summary

A new pupil, Lilica Hubert, joins Chibiusa's class at Juuban Municipal Primary School and captivates every boy except the dozing Kyuusuke. Chatting with her after class, Chibiusa and her friends learn that Lilica lives at a nearby embassy, a building Momoko remembers being called haunted. The next day their classmate Ishihara fails to appear, having never returned home after walking Lilica back the evening before. Suspicion grows when Chibiusa and Momoko catch Lilica plucking flowers in the school garden, insisting it is kinder to gather them before they fade, and the blossoms where she sat are found withered once she leaves. She unsettles Chibiusa further with a remark about her plump, tasty-looking cheeks.

The following morning another boy, Kuwano, goes missing after seeing Lilica home, and Chibiusa and Kyuusuke are horrified to watch her pluck a flower and devour it with bared fangs. When the group shares the tale at the Tsukino house, the girls treat the vampire idea as a joke, but Usagi seizes on the old belief that garlic wards off such creatures, using it as an excuse to have Mamoru treat everyone to Korean barbecue.

Key Events

Tasked with delivering homework, Chibiusa heads to the embassy with Momoko and Kyuusuke, their breath still heavy with garlic. On the grounds they find a graveyard thick with the very flowers Lilica had been eating, and she calmly invites them in, brushing off the vampire talk by claiming the blooms were only flower-shaped candy. Momoko vanishes after asking for the bathroom, and when Chibiusa searches, she discovers Lilica looming over an unconscious Momoko in a vast chamber, with Ishihara and Kuwano slumped nearby. Lilica confesses she has been draining blood from the helpless children, then warps into a vampiric Lemures and floors Kyuusuke.

Tuxedo Mask intervenes before she can reach Chibiusa, and Usagi arrives in the doorway. The two transform, and the rest of the Sailor Guardians paralyze the monster with the Sailor Special Garlic Attack, unleashing their barbecue-tainted breath. Sailor Chibi Moon summons Pegasus, and Moon Gorgeous Meditation finishes the fiend, which boasts that more of her kind lie in wait before vanishing to leave the real Lilica behind. As the classmates stir awake, Sailor Chibi Moon reassures Lilica that she had merely been caught in a long dream.

Notes

First aired in Japan on April 8, 1995, this special adapts the manga side-story Chibiusa's Picture Diary Chapter 1, with notable revisions: the printed version set its events during the Black Moon arc, cast Lilica herself as a genuine vampire rather than a girl possessed by a Lemures, and kept most of the senior guardians out of the fight. The closing scene circles back to the setting that opened the first episode of the special. A small animation error leaves the left wing of Sailor Moon's brooch missing after the garlic attack, and despite the monster's warning, vampires never resurface in the anime, though the stage musicals later feature an unrelated Count Dracul.
