Clash of Dreams! Minako and Makoto's Broken Friendship

A heated falling-out drives Makoto and Minako apart, straining a friendship that usually anchors the group. The tension turns costly when the Amazoness Quartet arrives with plans to wreck a beautiful flower garden, forcing the two to set aside their argument.

The Quartet's scheme brings out the Lemures Ms. JyaraJyara as the episode's featured foe. The confrontation doubles as a milestone for both guardians, who unveil their upgraded power for the first time here. Makoto debuts the Jupiter Crystal Power, Make Up transformation alongside the Jupiter Oak Evolution attack, while Minako introduces Venus Crystal Power, Make Up and Venus Love and Beauty Shock.

Written by Ryota Yamaguchi and directed by Yuji Endou, the episode first aired in Japan on November 25, 1995, and later reached North America on Halloween of 2000 under the CWi dub title "Nightmare Garden." The story is original to the anime; in the manga the pair did not earn their new attacks and Super forms together. There Makoto gained her strength after receiving her Sailor Crystal from Guardian Jupiter once Hawk's Eye attacked her, and Minako awakened hers through Artemis after the dagger-throwing twins Xenotime and Zeolite trapped her, each relying on a separate item, the Leaves of Oak and the Whip of Love, to power the new techniques. This installment also marks the first time Minako's image song "Route Venus" appears in an episode, heard as she performs for a group of kindergartners. The plot of the two nearly severing their bond echoes their earlier joint power-up episode.
