Summary

Walking home from school with a hungry Usagi, Makoto offers to cook for her and confides that she took up the kitchen to seem more feminine, feeling too tall and boyish. At a crosswalk, Haruka nearly clips them on her speeding motorbike, and after Makoto shoves Usagi clear, the racer binds Makoto's hurt wrist with her own scarf. Makoto is left flushed and admiring, to Usagi's amusement. Away from them, Haruka and Michiru share a wordless premonition about the ruin the wielder of the Silence Glaive will bring, and they sense that Makoto carries a Pure Heart Crystal.

Determined to return the scarf, Makoto sets off toward Haruka's home. Kaolinite, watching from the shadows, sends a gust that carries the scarf away, and when Makoto grabs it, a Black Heart devised by Doctor Tomoe fuses with the cloth to birth the Daimon Scar. Usagi and Ami transform, and Sailor Mercury frees the trapped Makoto by freezing Scar's ribbons with Shine Aqua Illusion. Kaolinite orders the monster to withdraw rather than spend energy on the guardians. Observing it all, Sailor Uranus resents Sailor Moon's meddling and resolves to steer Makoto straight into the enemy's path.

Key Events

The next day Haruka and Michiru pick Makoto up by car, warmly drawing her in despite Usagi's worried protests. When Scar reappears, the pair feign being attacked, slip away to transform out of sight, and let the Daimon extract Makoto's Heart Crystal. Uranus drives off Kaolinite with World Shaking so the crystal cannot be stolen, and the betrayed Makoto realizes she was used as bait. Once Sailor Moon and the inner guardians arrive, Neptune confirms the crystal is not the pure one they seek, and Uranus hands it back. A revived, furious Makoto becomes Sailor Jupiter, strikes Scar with Sparkling Wide Pressure, and Sailor Moon destroys the Daimon using Moon Spiral Heart Attack.

As the two outer guardians turn to leave, Sailor Jupiter blocks their way, condemning their willingness to seize Heart Crystals as no better than the Daimons themselves. The exchange erupts into a fistfight in which Jupiter lands a blow on Uranus's wrist before Uranus breaks free and escapes with Neptune, who quietly notes how strong Jupiter has proven. Afterward Makoto tends to the unconscious Haruka, spots her injured wrist, and ties the scarf around it as Haruka once did for her, thinking of a childhood friend. Later her classmates find her at a shop, choosing a pink scarf inspired by Haruka's purple one.

Notes

Written by Yoji Enokido and directed by Kounosuke Uda, the episode first aired in Japan on May 14, 1994, and reached North America on June 20, 2000, as "Lita Borrows Trouble" in the CWi dub. Trivia notes that Jupiter and Uranus prove evenly matched in the brawl despite their opposing elemental affinities of lightning and wind. Cloverway's dub cut the moment Scar draws out Makoto's Pure Heart because of the star positioned on the Daimon's chest, and the Viz dub reworked the communicator dialogue so the other guardians object to Makoto crushing on someone already in a relationship rather than fretting over her interest in another girl.
