Summary
The Golden Crystal has spared Tokyo and torn the Dead Moon Circus apart, leaving every Guardian and Helios unconscious except Sailor Moon. She alone sees that Nehelenia has survived and is clutching a limp Sailor Chibi Moon as the ruined structure lifts off the ground, drawn upward by the New Moon that will imprison the queen once more. Sailor Moon grabs hold and chases her up a long spiral stair.
At the summit she hears a horrified scream and finds that Nehelenia has withered into a hideous old crone. Recognizing Sailor Moon as the reborn Princess Serenity, the queen confesses she has always watched that kingdom with envy, and she begins to explain how she ended up so utterly alone.

Nehelenia recounts her fall: once a beloved and beautiful ruler, she convinced herself she could stay young forever until her mirror showed a withered reflection. A whispered chant about a child's dream lured her toward evil, birthing Zirconia from her fears. She stripped her retainers of their Dream Mirrors, reduced them to Lemures, and consumed them to lock in eternal youth, then chose to dwell among those monsters alone. Now, she reasons, being sealed to restore her beauty beats aging in the future.
Moved to pity, Sailor Moon draws the queen's fury. Nehelenia hurls a Zirconia figure to kill her, but the compassion in Sailor Moon's eyes echoes the gaze that once sealed her, and she flinches away. Enraged, she flings Chibi Moon off the crumbling statue toward the city below, taunting that Sailor Moon has lost her dreams and her future. Sailor Moon leaps after the falling girl as the queen, her youth restored, is drawn into the New Moon and sealed within her mirror at last.
Plummeting after Chibi Moon, Sailor Moon transforms into Princess Serenity and reaches her, begging her to wake before both their futures are lost. Chibi Moon stirs and smiles that they will dream together, which rouses Helios into his Pegasus form to give them wings and set them down safely.

The following day, Helios bids the group farewell and kisses Chibiusa's hand, sparking the others' jealousy, until VesVes cries out a fake UFO to buy the girl a moment to hug him. The Amazoness Quartet gets ready to carry on with their own lives as Pegasus takes flight, and a tearful Chibiusa runs after him, never having told him her own dream, yet smiling with hope of seeing him again.
This finale served as the last episode of the 1990s series for the original English release as well as the French and Hungarian dubs, and it marked the final bow for the Amazoness Quartet, for Helios and Pegasus, and for the Golden Crystal, though Nehelenia would return for the opening episodes of the fifth season. It stands as the only episode of the entire 90s run to feature no transformations or elemental attacks, and the last to use Moonlight Legend as its opening theme.
