Labyrinth of Mirrors: Chibi Moon Captured

With Super Sailor Chibi Moon in the grip of the Dead Moon Circus, the remaining five Super Guardians press forward to free her. Nehelenia, bent on regaining both the spirit and body of Helios, has her captive, and to keep the rescuers at bay Zirconia seals them inside a labyrinth of mirrors where every reflection tries to wear down their resolve.

Nehelenia reveals her hatred of the Silver Millennium and the peace it knew under Queen Serenity. Her attempt to seize the Golden Crystal had failed when the stone recognized her malice and struck at her, and her capture of Helios led Serenity to imprison her within a mirror. A solar eclipse finally let her loose her forces upon Earth. As the mirror maze nearly breaks Super Sailor Moon, her bond with Mamoru and Chibiusa steadies her, and she shatters the glass with Moon Tiara Magic, letting the others do the same in their own chambers and collapsing Zirconia's spell.

Elsewhere the Amazoness Quartet, restless and bored, swap Chibi Moon for a decoy doll and try to ride Pegasus, only to find him an illusion. When they reach for the Golden Crystal, it senses their intentions and raises protective flames. Chibi Moon braves the fire to free Pegasus, cuts away the reins the Quartet fastened on him, and begins to shake their loyalty to the Circus. A furious Zirconia banishes the Quartet into another dimension, recaptures Chibi Moon and locks Pegasus back within her Golden Mirror.

Harume Kosaka directed the episode from a script by Yoji Enokido, and it first aired in Japan on February 10, 1996. The CWi dub, titled The Dark Legend, premiered in North America on November 13, 2000. Left shaken by events, the Quartet start to sense they have chosen the wrong side and weigh joining the Guardians. This is also the last time Sailor Moon performs the genuine Moon Tiara Action attack in the 1990s anime.
