Protect Mom's Dream: Double Moon's New Attack

The third episode of the SuperS season and the 130th overall doubles as a turning point for the team's arsenal. Hawk's Eye of the Amazon Trio sets his sights on Usagi's mother, Ikuko, hoping her Dream Mirror hides the winged Pegasus. During the clash the two heroines are permanently gifted Pegasus's power, blossoming into stronger Super Sailor forms and receiving upgraded tools: Sailor Chibi Moon gains the Crystal Carillon, while Sailor Moon takes up the Moon Kaleido Scope and unleashes Moon Gorgeous Meditation to destroy the enemy.

The trouble starts at home, where Ikuko has baked a lemon pie to reward the children for perfect schoolwork and scolds Usagi for her poor test score. An argument drives Usagi out the door, and a guilt-stricken Chibiusa, who ate Usagi's share, goes to apologize just as Ikuko is leafing through old family photographs. Meanwhile the Amazon Trio pick their next mark, and Hawk's Eye settles on Ikuko. On the walk home from the market he corners mother and daughter, feigns collapse from hunger, and lures Chibiusa away to fetch food, leaving Ikuko exposed.

Chibiusa crosses paths with Usagi at the market, and the two return to find Hawk's Eye pulling out Ikuko's Dream Mirror. They transform and fight, but even with the rest of the team and Tuxedo Mask lending aid, Hawk's Eye and his Lemure overwhelm them and shrug off Moon Spiral Heart Attack. With the mirror empty and the villain ready to kill, Chibiusa begs Pegasus for help. He answers, remaking their lockets into Super Sailor forms and handing over the Crystal Carillon and the kaleidoscope weapon, letting Sailor Moon wipe out the Lemure with her new attack. Hawk's Eye flees and the mirror is restored. Back home, another pie-fueled quarrel erupts until Ikuko demands a compliment on her baking, and Usagi teasingly asks Chibiusa whether she prefers Neo-Queen Serenity or Ikuko as a mother.

The chapter is stuffed with lasts and firsts. It marks the final showing of the ordinary Sailor forms of Moon and Chibi Moon, along with the closing use of Moon Spiral Heart Attack, the Spiral Heart Moon Rod, Pink Sugar Heart Attack, the Pink Moon Rod, and the transformation calls that went with them. On the debut side it brings in the Crystal Carillon, the Chibi Moon Compact, the Crisis Moon Compact, the Moon Crisis transformation, and the attacks Twinkle Yell and Moon Gorgeous Meditation. It is also Ikuko's first appearance since the R season, having sat out the S run, and Kenji is mentioned and glimpsed only in a family photo. The monster is Do Kanko, and the dub, titled Sweet Dreams, aired in North America on September 28, 2000, after the Japanese premiere on March 18, 1995.
