Silver Crystal

Handed down through the rulers of the Silver Millennium, this gem holds a staggering amount of power, ranking among the single greatest magical objects anywhere in the galaxy. It can pull an entire world and every living thing on it back from death and devastation. That feat carries a heavy toll, since the crystal draws on the life force of whoever wields it, and pushing it to such extremes often kills the user. When several allies lend their own inner strength to the effort, the wielder is spared but left drained.

Command over the stone is limited to the Moon Kingdom bloodline. It fueled Queen Serenity during the Silver Millennium, then passed to her daughter Sailor Moon and her granddaughter Chibiusa, each inheriting it in turn. Its radiance is usually a brilliant white, though it can shade toward pink, fuchsia, or magenta, and across the various tellings it takes forms ranging from an orb to a rose, a diamond, or a lotus. Different dubs and releases have called it the Imperium, Legendary, Mystic, or Phantom Silver Crystal, and its counterpart on Earth is Mamoru's Golden Crystal.

The crystal's reach is vast. It can bring back the dead, return lost memories, turn wickedness to good, reshape monsters into humans, ward off dark energy, heal, spread its influence across a whole planet, and fire beams and blasts as readily as it raises shields and barriers. Villains routinely describe it as boundless, a source of endless energy that grants total mastery over a world. Even so, a handful of rival artifacts approach its might, among them the Malefic Black Crystal of Nemesis, the Taioron Crystal, the Golden Kingdom's Golden Crystal, and Galaxia's Lazurite Crystal.

In practice the gem is the weapon that ends the final villain of each story arc, working through two main strengths, a devastating magical strike and the power to restore. It focuses more sharply when set into the Moon Stick, though Usagi eventually grows so attuned that she no longer needs the device. It also amplifies itself by borrowing the strength of the other guardians. Late in the story it is revealed to be Eternal Sailor Moon's own Sailor Crystal, maturing into the Silver Moon Crystal that serves as her Star Seed and the root of all her power.

The stone begins with Queen Serenity, whose reign it protected while granting the Moon Kingdom long life. When Beryl, driven by Metalia, destroyed that realm and killed Princess Serenity along with her guardians and Prince Endymion, the Queen spent the crystal and her own life to seal the enemy and send the fallen to be reborn on Earth. Generations later it resurfaces through Usagi, first forming from her tear as she grieves a dying Tuxedo Mask and remembers her past as Princess Serenity, after which she keeps it in her transformation compacts.

In the 1990s anime the shattered crystal reassembles from the Seven Rainbow Crystals in episode 34, reviving everyone's Silver Millennium memories, and in the future it heals the Earth and raises Crystal Tokyo. Across the films it shields against Fiore, once costing Sailor Moon her life until Tuxedo Mask's kiss restores both her and the gem, and it even turns Luna human for a night. The live-action series hides it inside Usagi's body as a double-edged power that could strengthen Metalia or wreck the world, while Sailor Moon Crystal traces it from the Dark Kingdom battle through the Black Moon and Infinity arcs. In the thirtieth century Neo-Queen Serenity guards it, and Chibiusa ultimately claims her own future version as the Pink Moon Crystal.
