Sword of the Silver Crystal

The Sword of the Silver Crystal, also known as the Holy Sword, is an enchanted blade the Guardians uncover on the moon in Act 10. Buried point-down in the ground, it yields only to Sailor Venus, the single Guardian able to pull it loose. The weapon dates to the Silver Millennium and was made to shield Princess Serenity. Once Prince Endymion fell at Queen Beryl's hands, a grieving Serenity turned the blade on herself, and to answer both deaths, Venus took up the sword and struck Beryl down.

In Act 12, Sailor Venus again slays Queen Beryl with the blade, after which cryptic writing surfaces on the metal that only she can decipher. The text spells out how to seal Queen Metalia and rekindle the Moon's great power to restore its kingdom. The sword can pierce a diamond, marking it as forged from something tougher than any earthly substance, a trait carried over into Crystal. Confused, Sailor Moon kills Tuxedo Mask, whose body Metalia had seized, then takes her own life, though neither truly dies and the act only prises Metalia loose from his form. In Act 13 the other Guardians cast aside their transformation pens and Venus calls on the blade once more to lend the team extra strength, but the gambit fails and drains them, marking the last the manga shows of the weapon.

Crystal follows the same beats: Venus frees it from the moon, and the spirit of Queen Serenity names it the holy sword that protects the Princess, usable only by the four Inner Guardians. On Earth, Minako splits a diamond with it, and Sailor Moon later uses the blade to break the necklace binding Beryl to Metalia. Writing then blooms across the blade, foretelling that when the crystal hidden in the future queen begins to shine, she will awaken the Moon's full power. Overcome, Sailor Moon runs the sacred sword through Tuxedo Mask and then herself.

Sailor Venus is the blade's primary bearer across the manga and Crystal, though Sailor Moon takes it up in Crystal and the musicals as well. It ranks among the very few physical weapons the Inner Guardians carry, and the only one all of them can wield at once. Venus later folds it into her Venus Wink Chain Sword attack in the third season. The stage production La Reconquista features the sword too, though there it is Sailor Jupiter who wrests it from stone. When the manga was revised in the early 2000s, most mentions of the name were stripped out, leaving the weapon unnamed.
