Overview
The Transformation Brooch is the earliest magical device Usagi Tsukino relied on to change into her basic Sailor Moon form. Its activating call is Moon Prism Power, Make Up. In the Crystal design it is a rounded golden brooch topped with a crescent moon, with a gold star at its heart and four little circles set one to each quarter, each standing for one of the Inner Guardians who fight at her side: red for Sailor Mars, blue for Sailor Mercury, green for Sailor Jupiter, and orange for Sailor Venus.
Function
Luna delivered the brooch to Usagi in the opening episode of the anime and in the first act of the manga and Crystal. To convince Usagi that a Guardian's destiny truly awaited her, Luna coaxed her into transforming into Sailor Moon, bribing her in the anime and tricking her in the manga and Crystal. Once she had it, Usagi took to wearing the brooch at the center of the bow on the front of her school uniform whenever she was in civilian form. The item did not last the whole run: it broke during the anime's fifty-first episode and in Act 14 of the manga and Crystal, after which she gained the Crystal Star.
