Act 39 Dream 1 - Eclipse Dream

As the first installment of the Dream arc, this chapter has a strange traveling show, the Dead Moon Circus, materialize in Juban during a full solar eclipse. Within her dreams, meanwhile, Chibiusa grows close to a white, angel-winged horse called Pegasus, who asks for her aid and begs her to keep their encounter a secret.

While Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, Minako, Mamoru, and Chibiusa observe the eclipse, an enormous ship emerges from it declaring that the Dead Moon Circus has come, then both the vessel and the Pegasus vanish in an instant. Down in the shopping district, the circus has already sprung up, and Usagi and Chibiusa each pick up a kaleidoscope. That night the show's leader, Zirconia, calls forth the Amazoness Quartet, who throw a barrier over Juban so no one can interfere. In her sleep Chibiusa soars above a darkened Tokyo on the Pegasus, who hands her a small bell to summon him and explains that he needs her help, and the Golden Crystal, to save Elysion; she wakes clutching the Crystal Carillon.

When Chibiusa's time key fails against the new barrier, the disturbance draws the circus, and the Quartet looses a tiger after the pair. Usagi and Chibiusa cannot reach their Super forms because the Holy Grails no longer function without the Outer guardians, yet their brooches transform, letting them become Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon for good. The Quartet answers with shadowy creatures called Lemures, so Chibi Moon rings the bell for Pegasus, who turns their kaleidoscopes into weapons; the two cast Moon Gorgeous Meditation and destroy the Lemures.

Tuxedo Mask arrives only to buckle from a chest pain that has plagued him since the eclipse. Back at the circus, PallaPalla uses her orb to reshape a tiger, a fish, and a hawk into the human-looking Amazon Trio, then lays a reversing curse on the two heroines. When they drop back to their civilian selves, Usagi has been turned into a small child while Chibiusa has aged into a teenager.

Naoko Takeuchi both authored and illustrated the chapter, which floods the story with debuts: the Dead Moon Circus itself, Queen Nehelenia, Zirconia, Zircon, the Lemures, the Amazoness Quartet of CereCere, PallaPalla, JunJun, and VesVes, and the Amazon Trio of Tiger's Eye, Fish Eye, and Hawk's Eye. New gear also appears, including the Moon Kaleido Scope, the Chibi Moon Kaleido Scope, and the Crystal Carillon, alongside first uses of attacks such as Twinkle Yell and Moon Gorgeous Meditation.
