Jay Erk

Jay's signature is the headband stamped with his self-styled nickname, Kill Baby, worn over a shaved scalp and a thin beard. He dresses in a button-up shirt and white trousers cinched by a belt whose buckle is shaped like a heart.

Brimming with misplaced confidence, Jay carries himself like a seasoned hand among the rookies despite four straight failures, forever insisting he is the one carrying his teammates. That bravado evaporates fast; a tougher opponent or the absence of a decent weapon is enough to rattle him completely.

By the time the arc opens, Jay has already washed out of the exam four times and is back for attempt number five. He tries to cow the newcomers aboard the plane, needling Sakamoto and Shin as they calmly eat spaghetti, only for the rest to write him off as a repeat nuisance. Once the fighting starts he gripes that his assigned spatula is useless and is promptly dropped by Mizuno. He later comes to while falling through a hole Kanaguri blew in the aircraft, finds Akira Akao, and hands over his clothes at her request, warming to the group as allies once they reach the ground. Paired with Sakamoto and Akira for the third round, he again claims to shoulder all the effort, panics at a stray butterfly that Akira rescues from him, and blunders into a trap that drops a metal net over the team, leaving him cowering behind Sakamoto as a bomb goes off. What little skill he shows amounts to some familiarity with proper weapons, judging by how lost he is without one.
