Episode 20

Slur's group moves to scout fresh recruits for its ranks. On the island course, Shin, Mafuyu, and Kaji find themselves hounded by Toramaru, whose obsessive devotion to Sakamoto boils over into a fight with Shin. Their clash becomes a strange contest over who understands Sakamoto best, ranging across a log, a river, and a mountainside. Elsewhere Sakamoto learns that Akira is the niece of Rion, the friend who once trained him, tying her into his past. Then Gaku, working remotely, sends the recruit Shinaya into a violent rampage.

Toramaru's backstory reveals a room stuffed with homemade Sakamoto merchandise and the lengths she went to in dyeing her hair and learning makeup to please him. Shin gradually turns the duel around, using his premonition and a telepathic sweep of the surrounding wildlife before knocking Toramaru toward the cliff and diving in to save her. Meanwhile Shinaya tears through the orange team and the examiners, ignoring Usami's order to stand down. When snipers fail to stop him, Shin, Mafuyu, and Toramaru move to intervene as the remote-driven fighter presses toward Usami and Shin.

The adaptation keeps Kaji close beside Shin and Mafuyu through much of the chase where the manga separated him, and greatly expands the log and river duel with extra shots of Toramaru readying her weapon. A Resident Evil reference is dropped, and a closing post-credits scene shows Heisuke, Lu, and Aoi minding the shop while Sakamoto cooks fish from the ingredients Akira and Jay gathered. Mutual Fans adapts chapters 64 through 67 with original content, aired on September 8, 2025, and continues the JCC Transfer Exams Arc under the themes Method and Dandelion.
