Chapter 87: Database

Shin yanks Satoda by the hair and lands a blow, though she slips free almost at once. Intrigued by these fearless kids, she trades strikes with him while Seba notices their attacks keep failing to bite. Akira grows anxious as the teacher hurls Shin skyward. Rather than anger, Satoda feels admiration for how the three have grown and how tightly they work together. As they huddle close, Akira half-jokes that the teacher's tears must be allergies, leaving Shin baffled.

Still moved, Satoda realizes she came close to killing the trio back when they were small children. When Akira gently calls her sensei and offers sympathy for any pain they caused, a furious Shin drags her back and warns that getting near Satoda is a lethal mistake. The teacher then breaks down exactly where they fall short and how to sharpen up, praising their coordination while making clear they are still far from her level.

Satoda discloses that the Database is a colleague she knows from the school. In a separate thread, Amane sits by himself until his grandfather appears and tells him he need not live as an assassin, that an ordinary path is open to him. Amane rejects the offer, adamant that only revenge will bring him peace, and his grandfather promises unconditional support. Amane then rings Kashima, agreeing to disable the JCC's security only on the condition that no one is killed. Kashima consents, since eliminating the Database is his single aim, and Amane powers the system down.

The brawl with Satoda winds down as she recognizes the students' progress and admits she nearly killed them years earlier. She critiques their weaknesses, compliments their teamwork, and confirms that the elusive Database is someone on the school staff. Amane's grandfather offers him a life free of assassination, which Amane turns down in favor of vengeance. Amane strikes a bargain with Kashima to shut off JCC security on a strict no-kill condition, then follows through and deactivates the system.

This JCC Infiltration Arc entry appears in Volume 10 under the title Detabanku, meaning Database, which teases the mystery figure Kashima wants dead.
