Admissions Interview Arc

The Admissions Interview Arc occupies the second slot among the story arcs of SPY x FAMILY, covering chapters 3 through 6 of the manga (volumes 1 and 2) and episodes 3 through 5 of the anime's first season. Its title is a fan convention adopted for organizing the story rather than an official name.

Getting Anya through Eden Academy's selection process is the first concrete requirement of Operation Strix, so Loid throws every resource he has at the school's admissions gauntlet. The arc follows the Introduction Arc and leads into the Eden Beginnings Arc.

Once Yor moves into the apartment on Park Avenue, Loid runs a mock interview that his fake wife and daughter fail spectacularly. His answer is a day out in the city, exposing them to museums, opera, and other upper-class pastimes. The outing seems fruitless until the three of them work together to catch a purse snatcher in a park; the elderly victim remarks that they make a lovely family, and a second practice session at home goes far better.

On the day of the entrance evaluation, Loid immediately notices faculty members covertly grading how applicants behave on the grounds. The family clears every hidden test, drawing the admiration of Housemaster Henry Henderson, who watches from an upper floor. When the school's livestock stampede into the crowd, the Forgers calmly defuse the chaos, and Henderson personally thanks Loid, convinced their elegance is genuine.

The final stage, a sit-down family interview, collapses when Professor Murdoch Swan aims cruel questions at Yor's status as a stepmother and drives Anya to tears. Loid smashes the table between them, tells Swan that a school which tramples on children's feelings is one he wants no part of, and walks out with his family. Henderson, equally revolted, punches Swan for disgracing the academy. Certain they have blown it, the Forgers brace for rejection, an omen seemingly confirmed when their family portrait falls off the wall.

Anya's name is absent from the acceptance board, yet Henderson quietly reveals she sits atop the waiting list thanks to his intervention. A phone call soon confirms her enrollment. Franky invites himself to the celebration, and a well-lubricated dinner ends with Anya demanding a reenactment of the castle rescue from her favorite cartoon. Loid rents Newston Castle in Münk, deploys dozens of WISE agents as extras, and plays the hero against Franky's villain while a drunk Yor briefly steamrolls him as "a witch." Anya promises to work hard at school, and Loid files his Phase 1 report to headquarters, staggering expense sheet included.

Anya's admission closes out the opening phase of Operation Strix and pivots the series toward her school life. Henry Henderson enters the cast as a recurring figure whose devotion to elegance keeps intersecting with the Forgers, while Murdoch Swan's humiliation plants a grudge that resurfaces much later in the story.

The interview disaster also gives the fake family its first taste of functioning as a real one: Loid's fury on Anya's behalf and Yor's protective anger are instinctive rather than performed, a pattern the series returns to constantly.
