Eden Beginnings Arc

The Eden Beginnings Arc is the third story arc of SPY x FAMILY, covering chapters 7 through 10 along with Extra Mission 1 and Short Mission 1 (volume 2), adapted in episodes 6 and 7 of the anime's first season. The fan-assigned title bridges the Admissions Interview Arc and the Secret Police Arc.

With Anya enrolled, Operation Strix enters phase two: reaching Donovan Desmond's social circle, which is open only to the school's elite Imperial Scholars and their parents. Eight Stella Star merits get Anya in; eight Tonitrus Bolt demerits get her expelled.

The arc opens with preparations. A tailor fits Anya's uniform while spooking her with dark rumors about the school, and Loid's Handler lays out the merit system that now governs the mission. Yor, stung by memories of the admissions process, wishes she could be a more capable mother; when delinquents grab Anya outside a supermarket hoping for ransom, Yor scatters them with terrifying ease, and Anya, delighted, begs to learn to fight. Impromptu combat training follows, to Loid's bewilderment.

A pair of side stories flesh out the family's rhythm. To silence gossiping neighbors, an exhausted Loid schedules a weekend aquarium trip, only for WISE to hand him a mission on site: recover a microfilm hidden in a capsule swallowed by one of the penguins. Anya's mind reading singles out the right bird, Loid infiltrates the staff, exposes a fake researcher who came for the same prize, and Yor kicks the fleeing man into the ceiling. He caps the day by presenting Anya with a giant plush penguin. That toy joins her spy roleplay at home, which ends in tears when Loid scolds her for trying to enter his room, and in reconciliation when her parents play along with her game and buy her candy.

School finally begins with the orientation ceremony, where Anya telepathically learns of Loid's fallback plan: befriend Donovan's younger son, Damian. First contact is a disaster. Damian sneers at her family, Anya answers his bullying with a defiantly smug expression that wins over classmate Becky Blackbell, and when the paper wads start flying, Anya ends the matter with a right hook to Damian's face. Henderson, privately impressed by her claimed motive of defending Becky, still issues a Tonitrus Bolt and informs both families.

Loid presses Anya to apologize. Her tearful attempt the next day accidentally awakens a crush in Damian, who rejects the apology out of sheer embarrassment. At home, Loid's heavy-handed study drills drive Anya to her room until Yor points out that praise works better than pressure. Checking on his daughter, Loid finds her asleep over her books, tucks her in, and catches himself wondering what all this would feel like if the family were real. Elsewhere, Yuri Briar comes home from work to the bombshell that his sister is married.

This arc assembles the school-life core of the series: Anya, Damian, and Becky meet for the first time, Becky becomes Anya's first friend, and Damian's reluctant crush begins, an emotional thread the Friendship Scheme depends on ever after. Anya also collects her first Tonitrus Bolt, putting the expulsion counter in motion.

Yuri's first physical appearance tees up the following arc, and Sylvia Sherwood is formally introduced as Loid's Handler.
