Eden Scandal Arc

The Eden Scandal Arc is the nineteenth story arc of SPY x FAMILY, running from chapter 121 to chapter 127 plus Short Mission 18 (volume 17), between the Poacher Hunting Arc and the Five-Year Love Plan Arc. The title is fan-made.

The arc braids two threads: Loid's discovery, via Melinda Desmond's notes, of a disturbing link between Sigmund Authen and Donovan Desmond, and a school mystery in which the children of Cecile Hall expose the conspiracy that framed their housemaster.

When Melinda misses her session with Loid, he and Fiona dig into Donovan's activities around the births of his sons instead. Yor, meanwhile, bowls with the Lady Patriots Society and accompanies Melinda to a seance run by her occult reading circle, where the medium Crowley delivers nothing but bad omens. Melinda, upset on her friend's behalf for the first time, entrusts Yor with the notebook from her first therapy session. Reading it that night, Loid finds Melinda's accounts of feeling mind-read by Donovan, and among his associates one name stops him cold: Sigmund Authen.

Loid visits the elderly scholar with Anya in tow. Sigmund speaks freely of his wartime research and of meeting Donovan during the man's term as prime minister, yet Anya's telepathy shows his memories of Donovan are simply gone, and Loid's own observations find nothing sinister. That night, gripped by a recurring "sinking feeling," Sigmund frantically writes down fragments about Desmond and their project before they fade, and wonders whether Anya is Test Subject #7.

At school, rumor of a devil ritual lures Anya, Connie, and several boys into the abandoned old schoolhouse, where a caped "ghost" chases them off; Damian doubles back to carry a collapsed Anya to safety. Days later, an anonymous article accusing Henderson of taking bribes for test answers spreads through the academy, complete with photographic evidence and missing exam papers from his safe. Henderson denies everything but resigns anyway, calling the disgrace his own negligence, and receives a Tonitrus Bolt from Donna Schlag for what she brands an inelegant surrender to timidity. Anya reads his mind and confirms his innocence, then Connie recognizes her holy-water scent on a young teacher who had accused him: the schoolhouse ghost and the article's fabricator are the same man.

Eight first-years mount their own operation. Returning to the old schoolhouse, they are intercepted floor by floor by corrupt faculty, with Bill wrestling the rugby advisor, the twins facing the chess coach, and Connie and George braving sleeping gas, while Anya, Becky, and Damian break through a rope-wielding matron's puppet ghost to reach the fine arts room. There they find the ringleader: Murdoch Swan, running illegal admissions deals and the man who framed Henderson. Anya snatches his file of evidence, Swan offers unlimited Stella Stars for silence, and Donna arrives in time to shut the trap. Loid, who traced a forger's "Ag" signature on the scandal photo to the underworld artist Silver Halide with Franky's help, anonymously delivers the originals proving the image was a composite. The children parachute from a helicopter to catch Henderson at the Ministry of Education, and their pleading, together with Martha's reminder of his belief in education as a bulwark against war, persuades him to withdraw his resignation.

Swan and his accomplices are arrested, and SSS interrogators begin eyeing Eden Academy itself, noting its accumulating pattern of incidents back to the bus hijacking. The headmaster publicly apologizes to Henderson and reinstates him, and the children who saved him receive Stella Stars at a ceremony, offset by Rain warning stickers and a week of volunteer labor for their trespassing. The awards leave Anya and Damian at four Stellas apiece, Bill at three, Becky at two, and hand Ewen, Emile, George, and Connie their first.

For Operation Strix, the arc's quiet bombshell is Loid's confirmation that Sigmund Authen was once tied to the Desmond family, a thread that carries directly into later arcs.
