Daybreak

Daybreak cuts an imposing figure, tall and well-built and seemingly around Loid's age. Loose brown hair sits short on his head, and his eyes read green in the anime but blue on the manga page. His outfit pairs a beige pork pie hat banded in black with a navy turtleneck beneath a black jacket, brown shoes, and black pants; a half-sun emblem echoing his code name marks each shoulder of the jacket.

Vanity and overconfidence define Daybreak. He announces himself as an elite agent despite showing no real background in the trade, executing even mundane actions with theatrical bravado, complete with combat rolls and finishing poses during his first infiltration. The confidence is matched only by the incompetence: he fumbled his way around Eden Academy and escaped detection mostly through blind luck and Loid's quiet interventions.

His ambition, becoming as famous as Twilight, collides with the entire premise of spying. In a rare reflective moment he grasps that nobody will ever know his deeds, then solves the problem by autographing the tests he tampered with. Caught red-handed by a professor, Twilight in disguise, who offers secrecy, Daybreak instead insists the world hear of his exploits, asking the man to spice the story up for good measure.

George Glooman and his butler hire Daybreak for his first mission using three months of the boy's allowance: rewrite Damian and Demetrius Desmond's midterm answers so both fail. With the mission details inked on his hand, he somehow slips into the elite school, monologuing about why he took the name Daybreak: someday he will face the famous Western agent and settle who the true spy is. Loid, on campus in a professor disguise for a similar purpose, spots him almost immediately and spends the night salvaging his blunders: staging a soccer ball beside a window Daybreak smashed, producing a fake ID when a vault guard grows suspicious, and opening the vault door after Daybreak miscopies the passcode. Along the way Daybreak dodges guards by holding himself sideways off a signpost, a feat of grip and agility that startles even Loid. He clumsily knocks the "professor" down, alters the brothers' scores, signs his work, and rolls away laughing after instructing Loid to publicize his brilliance. Loid restores the original answers, and a baffled Daybreak is fired once George learns nothing changed.

He resurfaces at Cavi Campbell's Campbelldon tennis tournament, where Nightfall, eager to impress Twilight, flattens him and his partner with needlessly flashy plays; he never realizes who his opponents were. The Eden break-in leaves a lasting mark, as the school finds evidence of the intrusion and hardens its security, costing Loid any option of doctoring Anya's term final results. Loid briefly entertains the idea that the fool was actually a master spy sent to sabotage Operation Strix before dismissing it. A tournament scoreboard lists his pair as "D. Mauchly" and "E. Page," either of which could be his real name or an alias, and the character draws inspiration from Katsutoshi Imai of Kyo Kara Ore Wa!!
