She also passes along a warning: an informant at city hall has been arrested, and the enemy's crackdown is intensifying. That informant, Jim Hayward, sits in an interrogation room at SSS headquarters, where the baby-faced Yuri Briar takes over the questioning. Gushing politely about his sister between threats, Yuri breaks the man with incriminating photos, then slams his face into an ashtray, declaring that he, unlike the traitor, treasures his family and would go to any length in defense of the nation Yor calls home.

Word of the marriage finally reaches Yuri through a coworker, and Yor realizes with horror that a full year has passed without her ever mentioning it to him. The Forgers deploy their prepared "lovey-dovey marriage" set dressing before his evening visit. Yuri arrives bearing roses and murderous intent, resolved to expose the husband as unworthy, while Loid privately weighs whether the brother-in-law endangers his fake family. Yor defuses the year of silence with pure Briar logic, claiming she simply forgot, then forgot that she forgot, an answer her brother somehow accepts without question. As wine flows, Yuri's small talk sharpens into an interrogation about the couple's history and pet names, and his invented story about a work trip to Hugaria backfires badly: Loid recognizes the details as boilerplate from an outdated Ostanian intelligence manual and deduces that Yuri belongs to the SSS, the sworn enemy of WISE.

Rather than panic, Loid reasons that a personal line into the Secret Police could become a priceless intelligence channel, especially since Yuri hides the job from his sister. Yuri then bares his heart, recalling how an orphaned Yor came home bloodied night after night, buying him gifts with money he assumed cost her health and safety to earn, and demanding to know whether Loid can protect her better than he ever could. Loid answers with shameless conviction, vowing to shield her from spears and falling meteors alike. Unconvinced, and rattled by how awkwardly the couple reacts when their hands accidentally touch, Yuri issues an ultimatum: kiss in front of him right now, or he has the marriage annulled at city hall. Loid coolly accepts, reminding himself that Westalis's greatest spy has faked countless romances. Yor, facing her first kiss entirely unprepared, turns crimson as her husband leans in.

Yuri Briar is revealed as a Secret Police officer hunting Twilight, shown interrogating the arrested city hall informant Jim Hayward.

Sylvia warns Loid that the SSS crackdown is escalating and that headquarters expects Anya's eight Stella Stars within four months.

Yuri visits the Forger home for the first time and meets Loid.

Loid deduces Yuri's SSS affiliation from holes in his fabricated travel story and decides to cultivate him as an unwitting source.

The anime gives Millie a clearer presence during Hayward's detention, strips the initials from the SSS emblem, and never mentions that the marriage kit photos are doctored. Yuri carries roses instead of the manga's orchids, though the episode's key visual retains the orchids.

Loid's protective vow swaps the manga's bullets and nukes for spears and meteors, and when their marriage is questioned, the couple form a heart with their joined hands where the manga had them produce a fake photo. The bridge in Yuri's invented Hugaria story strongly resembles Budapest's Chain Bridge, fitting given Hungary's reputation as a Cold War espionage hotbed. Anya falling asleep on Loid's lap replaces the manga's couch gag, and the scene of her being carried to bed is cut.
