The Women's Combat Battalion emerges in the closing years of Ostania's first war with Westalis, when mounting casualties exhaust the nation's pool of men. Women who had been limited to support duties in the Women's Defense Auxiliary volunteer for direct service, receiving only rudimentary preparation before entering battle.
Role
The battalion fights attached to the 99th Regiment of the Ostanian People's Army. In the war's closing months it joins a major push to shatter the Westalian ring around the city of Minth. The operation succeeds and the engagement ends in an Ostanian victory, but the unit itself is effectively wiped out; its losses are mourned at home and repurposed by the state as wartime propaganda.
