Chapter 89

Distracted enough to be clipped by a passing truck before reaching the office, Yuri stews over recent events and admits to the Lieutenant that with Yor scarce lately, he hardly knows what drives him. The Lieutenant offers one consolation: the whole Secret Police is now combing the country for men who carry a wound matching Twilight's. Chloe hauls in a candidate, though the short, plump Bobby Bockle plainly is not the spy. Yuri interrogates him anyway, browbeating him with torture threats until he gives up the headquarters of his organization, the Chicken Circle, and the two officers drive out to investigate.

On the road Chloe needles Yuri about his mood and the pretentious persona he has maintained since their college days, then watches in bewilderment as he dives out of sight after catching Yor's scent and footsteps on the street outside. He explains that his SSS work must stay hidden from his sister; Chloe suggests he could simply claim the two of them are lovers if spotted, an idea Yuri rejects as an unthinkable betrayal of the woman who gave up her own happiness raising him. Chloe counters that a sister like that would surely want him to find happiness of his own. At the Circle's base Yuri ignores her plan for reconnaissance and storms in alone, taking on the whole membership to prove his strength. His recklessness nearly gets him stabbed before Chloe saves him, slaps him, and demands to know how Yor would feel if the brother who claims to live for her threw his life away. Chastened, Yuri apologizes, as does Chloe for her harshness; she urges him to show Yor he can take care of himself. Remembering a childhood illness during which Yor promised to become faster for his sake, Yuri resolves to train his evasion and blocking, leaving Chloe baffled by the leap in logic.

That evening Yor visits his apartment with home cooking, apologizing for hurrying him out of the Forger home while he was also injured. Yuri savors the meal until she mentions Loid prepared the fish, at which point he spits it out. Nursing his loathing, he fantasizes that his brother-in-law might really be Twilight and imagines engineering his arrest and execution, reasoning that Yor would shed no tears. Probing, he asks about her earlier declared dissatisfaction with Loid, which she waves off as a misunderstanding, then asks outright whether she loves the man. Her flustered stammering convinces Yuri she must hate him.

The SSS launches a force-wide hunt for suspects carrying Twilight's gunshot wound, and Yuri's solo assault on the Chicken Circle's base earns him a slap and a hard lesson from Chloe about valuing his own life.

Yuri commits to sharpening his defensive fighting, and a visit from Yor reignites his hostility toward Loid, whom he now half-hopes will prove to be Twilight so he can be removed from Yor's life for good.

The chapter reveals that Yuri skipped the remainder of high school to enter college at fourteen, with Chloe as an upperclassman during those years. His training daydream borrows the Senpukyaku and Hadoken associated with Street Fighter's Ryu, with the chapter illustration posing him at the Suzaku Castle stage, and the franchise later held a collaboration with Street Fighter 6 for the CODE: White film. The car's license plate, M89-96A, appears to encode the chapter number. Volume 13 adds text to flashback panels that the digital release left blank and fixes missing coloring on Yuri's legs, while the English translation on page 22 mistakenly places Yuri's cover job at the Defense Ministry rather than the Foreign Ministry.
