Asaki Fueguchi

The manga and anime disagree on the small details of how Asaki looked. On the printed page his hair is kept short, while the animated version ties it back into a ponytail. The anime also recasts his role entirely, presenting him as a physician who runs his own clinic rather than a background figure already gone from the story.

In the manga's timeline, Asaki had already died roughly four months ahead of the Steel Beam Incident, sometime before June 10th. All that survived him was a mask kept by his widow, Ryouko. Once he was gone, the investigator Kureo Mado harvested his kagune and shaped it into a quinque named Fueguchi One.

The anime tells a very different story. Still alive and working out of his clinic, Asaki was cornered by the brutish Yakumo Oomori, called Yamori, who forced him to reproduce a broken set of diagonal pliers while Hinami and Ryouko stayed hidden. The moment the work was done, Yamori turned on him, hurling him through a wall and leaving him gravely injured directly in front of Mado and Koutarou Amon. After Yamori slipped past the investigators, Asaki tried to stand his ground against them but was finished off by Mado.

Born a ghoul, Asaki carried the heightened physicality of his kind, and Mado himself remarked that he was quite strong. The fact that he sheltered his family for so long points to genuine capability. His rinkaku kagune resembled a bundled spine and lent itself to fast, cutting strikes.
