Ayumu Hogi

Short in stature, Ayumu keeps most of her face behind a curtain of untidy blonde hair. Underneath that fringe is a round, youthful look dotted with freckles, and because she dislikes those freckles she deliberately lets her hairstyle hide them.

Quiet by nature, Ayumu says little and pours her attention into the fight in front of her. Her insecurity over her freckles is what drives her peculiar hair. Beneath the reserve she is warm enough, having grown genuinely fond of a superior almost everyone else found unpleasant.

Serving in Squad 3 under Chuu Hachikawa during the Owl Suppression Operation, Ayumu helped bring down the Black Dog, though Kaneki wrecked her quinque and left her unable to keep fighting. When Eto surfaced, she made for the rooftop and traded blows with her, flipping clear of an attack that killed two of her comrades.

Later, as part of the renamed squad, she was sent to scout Rushima, suspected of hiding Aogiri. The team spied on Eto addressing her followers but was spotted by Owl. After Shikorae killed Hachikawa, a grieving Ayumu was pulled off the cliff into the sea by Tooru Mutsuki. Sheltering in a cave, she told Mutsuki about Hachikawa, explaining that a single fond memory made the man impossible to truly hate. Torso then ambushed her, but she survived and escaped back to headquarters to report on Rushima. A month after the operation she went to collect Mutsuki from a conversation with Saiko. In combat she is a capable swordfighter who held her own against SS- and A-rated ghouls, wielding the pale, katana-like quinque Youji.
