Doctor Momochi

Momochi presents as an unassuming woman, her dark hair worn short.

Warmth defines her, and she extends compassion to people and ghouls alike without distinction. Her devotion to her son runs so deep that letting him step out into the world on his own becomes a genuine struggle for her.

Momochi built a thriving surgical practice in a small town and married a fellow doctor. Seven years into their marriage, fertility treatment finally allowed the couple to conceive, and they awaited parenthood with joy. Then, in her sixth month of pregnancy, overwork claimed her husband's life without warning.

Devastated, she pressed on for the sake of the child she carried. Yet just short of his first birthday, the boy died suddenly in his crib. Unable to accept the sight of his body, she drifted out of her home during a fierce rainstorm, the infant in her arms and thoughts of ending her own life close at hand. In that daze she came upon a wounded woman crouched beside a building, and realized as she approached that it was a ghoul being pursued by investigators. Gravely hurt but still cradling a newborn she had kept safe, the ghoul begged Momochi to save her child, and the two women traded infants before the doves could close in.

Momochi carried the ghoul infant home and presented him as her recovered son, and the next day's news told her that the ghoul had thrown herself into the sea. Returning to work, she leaned on her medical position to secure food for the boy she named Ikuma and forged records claiming he suffered a severe food allergy. For nineteen years she raised him as a human son, until he grew up and set out for Tokyo. Fearful for his safety yet unwilling to hold him back, she saw him off at the station and kept in touch after he settled in the city.
