Kuki Urie

Two small moles sit just below Urie's left eye, and his dark, triangular eyes carry unusual diamond-shaped pupils. Purple hair shaved into an undercut tops his lean, medium build. On duty he keeps to the formal CCG ensemble, a dark suit worn with a black shirt and tie, and throws a white trench coat over it when a mission calls. Earphones are a near-constant accessory, and like many investigators he often carries a briefcase.

Urie tends to project calm, holding a flat expression and throwing himself into his work with a severity that leaves him cutting down more ghouls than a job requires. Ambition sits at his core: early on he charges after objectives alone, unwilling to divide credit and content to sow discord or manipulate teammates if it lifts his standing.

Beneath that composure churns a corrosive jealousy aimed above all at Sasaki, rooted in a feeling that the world has cheated him despite the loss of his father and his own place at the top of his class. His belief that ghouls must be eradicated and that an investigator must never retreat traces back to his father, a Special Class officer who ordered his subordinates to fall back while he stayed and died holding off the One-Eyed Owl. That loss also feeds his hatred of Iwao Kuroiwa and his son Takeomi for failing to stand with his father. Over time he lowers his guard, and Shirazu's death finally shatters his cool facade, opening him to grief and, eventually, genuine care for his squad.

Urie first surfaces hunting the ghoul Torso, exposing a taxi driver named Akashi Kobayashi by the blood he can still smell on him. The clash draws in his rival Shirazu, and after Sasaki saves them both, Urie bristles at orders to spare the ghoul for questioning. Chasing promotion, he manipulates the cash-strapped Shirazu into distrusting their mentor and buys tips on Torso from the photographer Chie Hori in trade for one of Sasaki's belongings. His solo streak splits the team into rival groups.

During the Auction raid he secretly undergoes the Frame release surgery after going over Sasaki's head to Yoshitoki Washuu and Kishou Arima for approval. His enhanced kagune spirals out of control against the SS-rated Big Madam, who nearly swallows him whole; he tears free, butchers her guards, and suffers a breakdown before accidentally stabbing Mutsuki, whose embrace pulls him back to himself. It is then he realizes Mutsuki was born female.

In the Tsukiyama operation he lands the killing blow on Noro but cannot save a mortally wounded Shirazu, whose death cracks his composure entirely. Six months later he returns leading a new Quinx Squad and wielding Ginkui, an SS-rated quinque forged from Noro. He binds his unit to Matsuri Washuu's S2 division, plotting his own route toward the S3 leadership his father once held. On Rushima he battles the kakuja-form Floppy, the transformed Amon, to reach Mutsuki, and barely survives.

The Clown Siege pits him against Donato Porpora, the ghoul his father once captured, who tortures Touma Higemaru to break him. Urie frames out into a twin-kakugan rampage until Saiko and Hsiao subdue him with suppressants and affection. Promoted to First Class, he later joins Iwao Kuroiwa in confronting Furuta, slays Roma Hoito, and rescues Kuroiwa, though Furuta strikes the older man down. In the epilogue he stands as a young TSC peace officer and Quinx captain, devoted to raising the next generation.

As a Quinx, Urie carries a koukaku kagune, sharpened senses, and enhanced strength and healing. His kagune forms an armored shoulder plate and a leg-length blade, gaining a second blade and a shield once his higher frames release. He deliberately overtrains to trigger constant muscle breakdown and regrowth, and pairs his raw ability with masterful use of Ginkui, which sprouts toothed tentacles echoing Noro's own and can be triggered from a distance.
