Personality

Kuramoto reads as easygoing and warm, forever grinning and tossing out playful remarks. He offers Haise Sasaki both encouragement and useful information while ribbing his teammates over their attitudes. There are hints, though, that the friendliness is not wholly sincere, since he follows a round of scolding by criticizing the use of one-eyed ghouls as investigators and calling them frightening. After the Auction mission he sheds those misgivings and becomes a true friend to the Quinx.

History

Ahead of the Owl Suppression Operation, Kuramoto was awed when Take Hirako described Kishou Arima's blank testaments, reading them as proof of Arima's own unbeaten record. He then fought through the operation as part of Squad 3, battling the Black Dog, Kaya Irimi, and eventually defeating her, though she shattered his quinque in the process. Kaneki intervened to save Irimi and briefly subdued Kuramoto's group, breaking a spare quinque lent by Ayumu Hogi, after which he regrouped and clashed with Eto before standing back to watch Arima face the One-Eyed Owl.

At the Auction Mopping-up Operation, Hirako in command, he fought alongside Takeomi Kuroiwa against the Clowns, taking on Roma Hoito while Hirako and Takeomi handled Uta and Ganbo. When Hirako moved on to assist Arima, Kuramoto was promoted to First Class and handed leadership of the renamed Itou Squad, a role he never really wanted. He worked with Koori Ui tracking suspected Aogiri ghouls in the 18th ward and joined the Tsukiyama Family Extermination Operation, where a fight with Noro left him gravely wounded, a rib jutting from his chest, until Shinji Michibata refused to abandon him and patched him up. He later grieved silently over Michibata's covered body.

Some time afterward, Kuramoto joined Takeomi and Hirako at the cemetery, apologizing at the graves of his fallen team for falling short as a leader. In the epilogue he leaves Tokyo to transfer to the CCG's Kansai branch, cracking down on ghouls alongside his subordinates and amusing himself with a fake Kansai accent. In combat he holds his own against opponents like the eight-tentacled Roma, wields his koukaku spear-quinque Senza with skill, and shows notable durability, conversing calmly even after Noro flung him aside.
