Appearance

In his years with the CCG, Takizawa kept his brown hair short with lengthy bangs split down the middle, matched by brown eyes and the neat suits investigators favored, often in shades of blue. His rebirth as a one-eyed ghoul erased nearly all of that. White now runs through his ragged hair, grown out below his chin, and a washed-out, gaunt quality settles over him.

Blackened nails and lips, hollow shadows beneath eyes stripped of their brows, and a single kakugan glaring from the left mark the change. He drapes himself in dark, billowing robes with broad sleeves cut to the elbow and a pale emblem on the hood, his shins bound and his toes bare. Once his mind steadies, he reworks that Aogiri garb into a black trench coat striped in white, its raised collar shielding the back of his head.

Personality

As a human, he was an honest, plainspoken young man whose respect for his standout seniors bordered on hero worship; he even kept a scrapbook of Arima's cases. Beneath that lay a gnawing hunger for recognition and a rigid belief that rank and age should command deference. When the respect he expected failed to arrive, or when younger and more gifted colleagues eclipsed him, he sulked, snapped, and stewed. His feud with Akira Mado in particular reduced him to constant bickering, and though he grudgingly conceded her skill and Juuzou Suzuya's, he could rarely mask his jealousy. For all his bluster, live combat terrified him; he begged for field duty yet crumbled at the prospect of dying, even as his sense of duty ultimately outweighed the fear.

Experimentation at Kanou's hands rewrote him. Having surrendered fully to his ghoul nature and Aogiri's creed, he turned into a gleeful killer who saw slaughter as a way to master fear by becoming the very thing others dread. His old memories survived intact, and with them his bitterness at always finishing second, an insecurity that let him cast Kaneki as a rival and the CCG as masters who had discarded him. He borrowed Eto's cruel, mocking cadence, lecturing victims on Aogiri philosophy while relishing their pain, yet the sight of someone from his past like Akira could still send him fleeing in shame. Underneath the lunacy the same starved need for approval endured, driving him to murder Tatara in revenge and butcher the investigators who then branded him a monster, before Akira's willingness to shield him finally pulled him back toward sanity.

History

Takizawa grew up unremarkably as the older of two siblings in an ordinary home. A ghoul's killing of an elderly neighbor named Satou badly rattled his mother, and that fear pushed him toward the investigator's path; he entered the Academy and graduated a year before the main story, ranked just below Akira Mado. Assigned to the 20th ward alongside Kousuke Houji to pursue the Gourmet, he clashed repeatedly with the irreverent Juuzou and with Akira, his mood souring whenever either outshone him. On the eve of the Owl Suppression Operation, ordered to draft a will in case he fell, he broke down and scrawled across the page that dying was the last thing he wanted. During the raid he disobeyed orders to search for a wounded Amon, only to watch Tatara and his ghouls annihilate the squad around him; Noro then tore off his arm, and the CCG listed him among the dead.

What actually followed was capture and delivery to Akihiro Kanou, who labeled him OWL 15 and made him the lone success among sixty-three test subjects. Relentless torture forged new Rc pathways while cracking his mind. He resurfaced during the Auction as the artificial Owl, gleefully harvesting investigators and clashing with Haise Sasaki before unleashing his incomplete kakuja. On Rushima he turned on Aogiri, cutting down Tatara in hopes of being hailed a hero, but Houji ordered the CCG to attack him instead; enraged, he slaughtered the troops and beheaded his former mentor, then nearly choked Akira to death until Amon's intervention and Akira's sacrifice restored his humanity.

Afterward he joined Kaneki's Goat, helped raid a CCG lab for the Rc suppressants that could save Akira, and dragged a berserk Amon back into the fold. His ukaku kagune scatters crystalline shards while his evolving kakuja eventually grants him disciplined control and twin shoulder blades. In the final war he returned Amon's chain to help him overcome Donato, and his fate afterward remains unknown, trailed only by rumors of a half-kakuja hunting rogue ghouls.
