Those Left Behind: vive

A quiet memory of a young Kishou Arima chasing a butterfly at the Sunlit Garden opens the hour before the fighting resumes. Shuu Tsukiyama drops in to reinforce Naki, Miza Kusakari and the White Suits, tearing through several soldiers before crossing blades with Koori Ui. Inside Kanou's laboratory, Nishiki Nishio admits he too has been hunting the doctor, only to be jumped by Shikorae and Roma Hoito, who came to collect Kanou for themselves.

Elsewhere the Quinx corner Seidou Takizawa. When Urie presses him about Tooru Mutsuki and prepares a killing blow, Akira Mado throws herself in the way and takes the strike meant for the ghoul. Fading, she recalls her academy years and how a resentful Takizawa once congratulated her for topping the honor rankings. She confesses that shielding a ghoul breaks the law, and that abandoning Takizawa during the Anteiku raid has haunted her as her greatest failure. A recovered Koutarou Amon blocks Urie, tells Takizawa to carry Akira to the wharf, and squares off against the squad alone.

Kanou slips away while Nishiki is busy, and Kurona joins him to corner the intruders. She shears through Roma's kakuhou, but Shikorae unveils a chimera kagune before a heavy hit from Nishiki sends him running, and Roma is taken prisoner. Amon holds firm until Saiko realizes he is the hooded figure who spared her in the parking garage and begs Urie to relent. Urie refuses and strikes with Ginkui, yet Amon sprouts his own kakuja, overwhelms the Quinx, and beats Urie back. Horrified at himself, he is knocked flat by Saiko's kagune; asked why he let her live, he answers that it simply felt right and urges her to weigh her own choices carefully. On the command ship, Itsuki Marude accuses Yoshitoki Washuu of being a ghoul rather than a mere ally, then shoots him in the head, only for the commander to rise with active kakugan and confirm the suspicion. In Kaneki's arms, a dying Arima explains that the One-Eyed King was a fiction he and Eto invented, that he is a half-human without ghoul powers whose kind trade longevity for strength, and asks Kaneki to claim credit for his death before passing.

Tsukiyama reenters the battle and duels Ui, while Nishiki, Kurona and their allies capture Roma and drive Shikorae off. Akira Mado sacrifices herself to save Takizawa and is carried to safety. Amon manifests a kakuja, routs the Quinx Squad, and departs after a pointed exchange with Saiko. Marude executes Yoshitoki Washuu and exposes the clan's ghoul nature when the commander revives. Kishou Arima dies confessing the truth behind the One-Eyed King myth and his half-human heritage.

The title carries the pun "revive." The installment draws on material from several Tokyo Ghoul:re chapters spanning the Rushima climax. The adaptation reshuffles events: Takizawa faces the Quinx rather than Mutsuki, Akira is wounded protecting Takizawa instead of Mutsuki, Amon escapes rather than being captured, and Donato breaks Haisaki's neck instead of beheading him. Eto's lines about the One-Eyed King are reassigned to Arima, Kaya Irimi is absent, and Torso's corpse goes unshown.
