His clash with Torso has shattered Mutsuki, who now realizes he has fallen in love with his sensei, Kaneki. Furuta, having seized leadership of the Washuu clan and command of the CCG, names Suzuya the successor to Arima and outlines a strategy against the Clowns. After assaults break out at once across the 9th, 2nd, 18th and 19th wards, the Clowns arrive at the doors of CCG headquarters. Suzuya trades blows with No Face there, and both sides come to understand that most of the Clowns' fighters are humans forced into the ranks against their will.

Urie, meanwhile, battles Donato and loses, spiraling into a berserk rage that Saiko tries desperately to pull him out of. Before the hour closes, Furuta pays Mutsuki a hospital visit, then addresses a large CCG assembly. In his speech he vows to exterminate every ghoul and introduces a fresh Quinx unit called Oggai.

Furuta takes over both the Washuu clan and the CCG and appoints Suzuya as the new Arima. Coordinated Clown attacks strike four wards before the group reaches headquarters, where Suzuya fights No Face and the truth about the coerced human fighters surfaces. Urie is beaten by Donato and goes berserk, with Saiko intervening. Furuta announces his extermination campaign and reveals the Oggai squad. Mutsuki's unraveling deepens over his feelings for Kaneki.

The title plays on "reface." The episode compresses a long block of Tokyo Ghoul:re chapters. Several manga beats change: Mutsuki hides his gender from Saiko and is routed to Oggai rather than Suzuya's squad; Matsuri, Mutsuki and Shinsanpei sit out the Clown battle for personal reasons; Urie faces Donato solo instead of alongside Higemaru; the execution of Kaneki's body double is not depicted; and Furuta does not yet take the Kichimura Washuu name. Goat also stays out of the defense.
