Re: Episode 5

Still bleeding from an earlier clash, Tooru Mutsuki is tracked down again by Kanae von Rosewald, who notices the injury has already closed and grasps that Tsukiyama means to devour the young investigator over and over. The attack that follows is broken up when Haise Sasaki arrives, and he, Kuki Urie, and Ginshi Shirazu take over the fight while Saiko Yonebayashi shields the wounded Mutsuki. Across the venue the raid splinters into a dozen simultaneous struggles between the CCG, the Quinx Squad, and Aogiri Tree.

Seidou Takizawa carves through the Atou Squad almost effortlessly, cutting them down until only Hina Tougi and Shougo Kukiyama remain, and he later corners and slays Hina in a restroom after she recognizes her former colleague. Outside Zeum Hall, Akira Mado batters Naki with her Fueguchi quinque and refuses Miza Kusakari's plea for mercy; Gagi and Guge throw themselves in front of an Ukaku squad to save their leader, dying and leaving Naki in tears. Ryouta Ooshiba falls to Nutcracker, while Naoto Hayashimura survives a plunge through a window. Below the stage, Urie and Juuzou Suzuya strike at the auction guests, but Urie loses himself to his kagune and is easily beaten by Big Madam, who is about to swallow him as Mutsuki catches up. The remaining Quinx recover Hayashimura only to run into Takizawa, and Haise unleashes his kagune to meet him.

The episode draws on the twenty-first through twenty-seventh chapters of Tokyo Ghoul:re, with several scenes reordered for pacing. Its subtitle plays on the word repress. The adaptation softens or censors some of Takizawa's victims, drops Mutsuki's remarks about his slow healing along with a flashback to his past, and cuts the moment where Nutcracker moves to eat a female investigator's face.
