Hirako Squad

Hirako Squad was a unit of the CCG that started with six investigators under the command of Take Hirako. When Hirako moved to Kishou Arima's team, the rest reorganized as the Itou Squad, headed by his former deputy Kuramoto Itou. Heavy losses eventually left only two survivors, who were absorbed into Kuroiwa Squad once the Rushima Landing Operation ended.

During the Owl Suppression Operation, the group linked up with Hachikawa Squad to form Squad 3 under Chuu Hachikawa. They battled the Black Dobers and their leader, the Black Dog Kaya Irimi, wearing the gang down before Centipede cut the fight short. Afterward they took up position on the rooftop where the Owls were confronted, standing ready as Ui, Hirako, and Arima met the One-Eyed Owl.

Under its new Itou banner, with Kuramoto raised to First Class Investigator, the squad joined the Quinx Squad for the Tsukiyama Family Extermination Operation. The two teams pushed through ghoul resistance until they ran into Noro, whose kagune tore through Umeno and consumed Nezu in an instant. A crushing blow put Itou out of the fight, prompting Michibata to take charge, treat him, and warn the Quinx of the ghoul's threat. The combined force pinned Noro down, but four sudden tentacles killed Michibata and hurt the others. Survivors Takeomi Kuroiwa, Kuramoto Itou, and Take Hirako later attended the funerals.

For the Rushima Landing Operation, the remaining members fell in with investigators such as Taishi Fura under Koori Ui, again designated Squad 3. They pressed against Aogiri Tree forces before meeting the Three Blades leader Miza Kusakari and a wounded Naki. Their assault was broken up by White Suit fighters and then by Shuu Tsukiyama, a hooded stranger, and the Black Dog. When Tsukiyama swapped in, he shattered Takeomi's quinque, while Naki and Miza cut above Itou's eye and blinded him with his own blood. Ui and Fura gained the advantage over the Black Dog only for the hooded figure to intervene, leaving Itou and Takeomi to recover once the operation closed.

Take Hirako founded and led the squad before transferring to the S3 Squad and later resigning from the CCG. Kuramoto Itou rose from deputy to squad leader and eventually moved to Kuroiwa Squad, as did Takeomi Kuroiwa. Shinji Michibata, who served as deputy under Itou, along with Masami Umeno and Yasuhito Nezu, all died in the line of duty.
