The Washuu clan is a Middle Eastern ghoul dynasty that founded and secretly controls the CCG in Tokyo Ghoul. Centuries of cannibalism gave the family unusually potent Rc cells, and while they publicly hunt ghouls in humanity's name, they are ghouls themselves, hiding their nature behind the very agency they command.
Tracing its roots to the Middle East, the Washuu clan is a ghoul lineage whose members have devoured their own kind for generations, leaving them with formidable Rc cells present from the moment they are born. When the Japanese government moved against ghouls in 1890, it recruited the family to establish the Counter Ghoul Institution, forerunner of the modern CCG, and ever since the Washuu have staffed its highest offices while directing more than a century of ghoul extermination.
Reputation paints them as cold, results-obsessed investigators who are hard company and treat rank-and-file colleagues as expendable figures on a ledger. Yoshitoki Washuu stands out as the rare member remembered for warmth toward those under him. The clan's deepest secret is that it consists of ghouls masquerading as humans, a deception preserved through the authority of the agency they run. Itsuki Marude cracked it by noticing one anomaly in the family's records: the Rc Scan Gates threw a false positive whenever a Washuu passed through.
Eto Yoshimura publicly alleged that the family had long been allied with the shadow society V and that an old war against a powerful one-eyed ghoul had produced the CCG. Kaiko later exposed the grimmer arrangement beneath it: the clan used V as body collectors so the Washuu could consume the flesh of slain investigators and satisfy their appetite for human meat. That reign ended during the Rushima Landing Operation, when V, the Clowns, and Nimura Furuta wiped out the entire main family apart from Matsuri.
Their long cannibal history makes the Washuu what the story calls natural-born kakujas. Where ordinary ghouls only mutate their Rc cells by eating others, this bloodline develops the mutation on its own through an inherited genetic quirk, which is why Dr. Akihiro Kanou concentrated his experiments on Washuu material. Curiously, only the one-eyed ghouls derived from Rize Kamishiro have shown true kakuja traits, and the clan members themselves have never manifested a kagune or the powers their heritage implies.
Beneath the main line sits a web of branch families assigned distinct duties, with the primary bloodline acting as the public leadership of the CCG. In private the clan runs a breeding program that designates individuals as Seeds and Wombs, made to father or bear children who either keep the pure line intact or become half-human servants. Souta Washuu-Furuta describes these pairings as incestuous and forced.
The main family spans CCG founder Daikichi Washuu and chairmen such as Yoshiu and Tsuneyoshi, alongside Bureau Director Yoshitoki, the sole survivor Matsuri, and the divorced Iyo. Its branch houses supplied many familiar faces, among them Kishou and Yusa Arima, Nimura Furuta, Hairu and Shio Ihei, Suzu Sanzu, and Kaiko, while Rize Kamishiro and various Sunlit Garden half-humans fall under lesser-known lines. The clan once counted V among its associates and also dealt with Adam Gehner and the GFG. After butchering most of his relatives, Furuta crowned himself the Washuu King, and Matsuri, the last one standing, swore never to father children, ensuring the family dies with him.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....
Yes, the Washuu clan are ghouls despite publicly running the CCG as humanity's ghoul-hunting agency. Generations of cannibalism gave them unusually potent Rc cells, and they hide their true nature behind the very organization they secretly control.
During the Rushima Landing Operation, V, the Clowns, and Nimura Furuta wiped out nearly the entire Washuu main family, sparing only Matsuri Washuu.
The Washuu clan's goal is to maintain secret control over the CCG while concealing that its own members are ghouls, using the agency's authority and their alliance with V to keep that deception intact.
Rize Kamishiro belongs to one of the Washuu clan's lesser-known branch lines, placing her within the extended bloodline even though she is not part of the main family.
The Washuu clan has cannibalized their own kind for generations, which gave them formidable Rc cells present from birth and made them what the story calls natural-born kakujas.
