Subordinate is the eighty-first chapter of Tokyo Ghoul, set in the ninth volume. It builds the friction and budding partnership between Amon and Akira, advances the hunt for the Gourmet, and confirms Amon has recognized Kaneki's handiwork.
Following the ceremony, Seidou Takizawa congratulates Koutarou Amon while trading jabs with Juuzou Suzuya. Yukinori Shinohara presents Akira Mado as the newest addition to the 20th Ward unit, and everyone but Seidou greets her warmly. Shinohara notes that Akira graduated at the top of her class over a second-place Seidou, which sours their rapport, and that she has served under Arima's team and at the 1st Ward Main Office.
With little to show on the Rize Kamishiro case, Seidou presents findings on the Gourmet's movements beyond the 20th Ward. Whether Shuu Tsukiyama is tied to the Ghoul Restaurant remains uncertain, but by weighing his feeding patterns and haunts, Akira argues the Gourmet is struggling to reach his favored prey, whom she places in the 6th Ward.
Sorting paperwork with Amon, Akira stays brisk and refuses idle chatter, then schedules a trip to the Ghoul Restaurant in the 7th Ward. Over drinks, Shinohara admits she is hard to read and wonders whether she is sizing Amon up, while Amon resolves to mentor her and Shinohara predicts the two will grow close.
At the restaurant, Amon, Akira, and Taishi Fura discover more than fifty slain ghouls. Akira assumes the Gourmet and accomplices did the killing, but Amon disagrees, reading the wounds as the work of a Rinkaku ghoul he recognizes. He names the culprit as the Eyepatch ghoul and suspects a link to Rabbit. Back at the office, Amon marvels at how thoroughly ghouls have woven into society, even defeating the biometric locks on quinques. His dinner invitation is declined by Akira, who cites her curfew, so Takizawa and Yasutomo Nakajima tag along instead.
Subordinate (部下, Buka) is the eighty-first chapter, part of volume nine. It develops the prickly dynamic between Amon and Akira, pushes the Gourmet investigation toward the 6th Ward, and shows Amon quietly identifying Kaneki as the killer at the Ghoul Restaurant. Arima, Rize, and Kureo Mado are referenced.
