Summary
Kaneki reels at the sight of a living Rize. Kanou praises him as his finest creation and explains his worldview: a warped cage confines humanity, so ghouls are needed to break it. Toward that goal he forced hybrid vigor to produce one-eyed ghouls, and the Rc walls were another fruit of his research.
Furious, Kaneki brands him a madman rather than a physician. Refusing to flee any longer, Kanou tries to win Kaneki over, promising to unveil the truth of the world and claiming that Yoshimura set in motion the events that spawned the Aogiri Tree. Skeptical, Kaneki weighs the doctor's words. Kanou tells him he has always been someone else's puppet, and that joining him would reveal how the world truly is and ought to be.
With Kaneki's mind in turmoil, Yomo appears without warning, pulls Rize from her container, and urges Kaneki to walk his own road. He warns that the CCG is arriving, and investigators including Shinohara move through the corridors remarking on the Rc walls.
