Meeting Kaneki outdoors, Souta Furuta admits he had the Clowns wipe out the Washuu Clan, leaving Matsuri as acting Chairman even though Tsuneyoshi's will names Souta the rightful heir. Gripping Kaneki's throat, he urges him to vanish and shoulder the blame, gloating over the massacre. Furuta reasons that defeating Kaneki would force humans and ghouls to unite, since only a towering shared enemy can dissolve the barrier between the species.

Realizing no deal is possible, Kaneki asks whether Souta dropped the steel girders that once crushed him and why he was chosen. Souta insists he was truly after Rize Kamishiro and lays out the Washuu family structure, where certain members plant seeds while others receive them, as Arima and Furuta did. He explains that V exists to serve the Washuu, that those carrying human blood are dismissed as unfit goods, and that wombs like Rize exist solely to keep the ghoul bloodline pure.

Furuta recounts their childhood together in the Sunlit Garden, where he adored Rize and pictured marrying her one day. Unable to bear the thought of her being forced upon a repugnant elder of the clan, he helped her flee out of love, only to grow bitter as she squandered her freedom. Fearing she might conceive, he tried to recapture her, and Kaneki was simply caught in the crossfire. With the Washuu gone, Souta now imagines fathering children with Rize and even asks Kaneki to play with them someday. After he leaves, Fuka questions letting him walk away, and Kaneki replies that Souta holding power actually suits his own plans.

At the :re cafe, Renji Yomo and Take Hirako talk over Kaneki's habit of embracing others. Yomo voices his loathing for Arima, who killed his sister and Touka's mother, while Hirako remarks that everyone chased Arima's approval yet never earned it, urging them to focus on their shared faith in Kaneki. A news bulletin then reports a CCG building on fire and Clown assaults across several wards, with the Kuroiwa, Suzuya, and Quinx squads mobilizing under the belief that Kaneki is responsible. Kaneki asks Tsukiyama for a favor and, to everyone's surprise, requests a large supply of white suits. Elsewhere a feverish Akira worsens as Seidou pushes Banjou to act, just as Nico arrives.
