:re Chapter 124

Mutsuki lifts Yoriko's hand and claims she resisted arrest, suspected of sheltering ghouls by staying silent about Touka, then invites Touka back to the station to talk. Touka kicks him clear out of the cafe, insists she has never heard of Yoriko, and clenches her fist. Nearby, Aura lunges at Kaneki with his kagune, but Kaneki dodges, rolls clear, and counters by impaling him from below, warning that Aura should have counted on how long the suppressants take to work.

The Oggai arrive as reinforcements riding bicycles, one explaining they are still under eighteen. They launch off a building, ram the wall, and knock Kaneki back with their kagune. Spotting Touka approaching, Kaneki tells her they must flee; Mutsuki orders the Oggai to give chase and swears to kill them as the :re cafe appears to burst into flames. Elsewhere, Takizawa offers to find food for Tomoe and remarks how inhospitable the world has become for ghouls. Tomoe recalls Tatara's warning that a keen sense of smell, not atomic bombs, is what ruins civilizations, since sniffing prey out always leads to devastation, and she likens the Oggai to a doubled threat.

Urie relays that Furuta is summoning Juuzou, but Juuzou decides to skip out and invites Urie along. Juuzou senses the coming operation carries the same stench as the 20th-ward campaign, recalling how the Owl operation cost many ghouls and investigators their lives, and he muses about what peace would even mean. Far away, Kaneki and Touka settle into a hidden, isolated spot for the night. When Kaneki asks if she is all right, Touka asks how he copes with wanting to see Hide, and he admits he was never able to act because the longing would overwhelm him. As they resolve to rest, Touka suddenly pounces, sweeps back her hair, and kisses him.

Touka kicks Mutsuki out and denies knowing Yoriko. Kaneki impales Aura, then fends off the bicycle-riding Oggai as the :re cafe burns. Tomoe recalls Tatara's warning about the danger of a sharp sense of smell. Juuzou skips Furuta's summons and reflects on past operations. Kaneki and Touka hide for the night, and Touka kisses him.
