Summary

A flashback opens the chapter as Haise Sasaki accidentally enters the bathroom while Mutsuki washes clothing bare-chested. Though it is plain that Mutsuki is biologically female, Haise only offers an apology and steps back out. In the present, Mutsuki has released a huge, many-eyed kagune that echoes Dragon itself while pressing Urie and Saiko. Even with Urie shielding himself, the force of the blows sends blood spurting from his ear. Mutsuki claims to have no real wish to kill Saiko yet insists he has no other option, and a shaken Saiko replies that both she and Urie have fretted over him since Dragon rose, admitting she cannot grasp what he hopes to achieve. Wearing a heavy, sorrowful look, Mutsuki says only that everything will end soon as his kagune surges around him.

Key Events

Nearby, Aura still trades blows with Higemaru and Hsiao. Sheathing her legs in kagune, Hsiao closes the gap, lands a punch to his face, and pins him down. As Aura concedes her strength, she surprises him by revealing that his aunt Kiyoko, legless as she is, remains in the field against Dragon, wheeled along the road by a fellow investigator. Hsiao offers to report that Aura assisted them, adds that she values the life the Quinx lead, and says she has no desire to give up on him. Higemaru catches up and tells Aura that although he too is uneasy about the alliance, ending the bloodshed is what truly counts, and after a pause Aura asks to be helped back to his feet. Elsewhere Urie recalls Sasaki's words upon his promotion, that a squad leader must act for the group's benefit, and vows to neither abandon Mutsuki nor let him harm Saiko. Mutsuki brands him a liar, claiming he recognizes one because he is one himself. He recounts the bathroom incident, saying Sasaki lied twice, by pretending he had seen nothing and by never admitting he knew Mutsuki was a woman, yet Mutsuki admires that Sasaki deceived for others' sake while he lies only for himself. Declaring he will do anything for the strength he craves, he runs Urie through, telling him that stopping him means killing him, but Urie seizes the kagune and defiantly refuses.
