Summary

Ken Kaneki lies unconscious in a treatment room, watched over by Touka Kirishima, Hideyoshi Nagachika, Kimi Nishino, Nishiki Nishio, and Kuki Urie. Kimi reports weak neural activity and that he breathes on his own, but her scans reveal several organs no one can identify, a situation past the medical team's experience.

She relays the CCG's stance: to break any link between Kaneki and the Dragon, researchers want to dissect him for study. Removing him, the presumed core, did start the Dragon crumbling, yet the similar giants over the other wards remain motionless. Studying his body may be the only path forward, and Kimi notes other cores like him are still active. She says she is glad to help, repaying the time he once rescued her.

Hide marvels at his friend's survival before leaving, and Nishiki grumbles about Kaneki's helplessness. Hinami Fueguchi, Kazuichi Banjou, and the Gas Masks arrive, followed by Shuu Tsukiyama with flowers, then Ayato Kirishima and Miza Kusakari. Nearby, Urie presses Tooru Mutsuki about her guilt, telling her that avoiding Kaneki changes nothing and she should face him. Thinking back on Ginshi Shirazu's death, Urie wants to correct Kaneki's belief that one person must fix everything, arguing that surroundings, luck, and fate together shape results and that others saved him many times without his noticing. He silently tells Kaneki he shoulders too much, as does everyone.

Amon, Akira Mado, and Saiko arrive too. Across the ruined city, Take Hirako, Yusa Arima, Kuramoto Itou, and Koori Ui discuss the ghouls' cooperation. Hirako quotes Kishou Arima on coexistence and conflict being mere ripples and warns of a terrible upheaval ahead, then adds another of Arima's predictions: all humans will become ghouls. Meanwhile CCG doctors gather gravely ill ROS patients turning into ghouls, and Itsuki Marude suspects the Dragon has further aims. In the ward, Kaneki finally wakes, sees his allies gathered, and greets them.
