Summary

Nico looks on as Donato Porpora's severed head hits the floor, felled by Koutarou Amon. Still able to speak, Donato says he always considered himself lacking and gave in to his ghoul nature to compensate, savoring the slaughter he inflicted on the children of the orphanage he ran, proving himself every bit the monster Amon took him for. Even with the Dragon loosing chaos and death across the city, he claims indifference, confident that humanity is too stubborn to stop surviving.

Amon answers by recalling the gentler times between them: the donuts Donato once made, the blankets on cold nights, the grave he dug for a stray dog they had taken in. Asked whether he truly feels nostalgic now that he knows the truth, Amon says he does, insisting that he was still an orphan Donato raised as his own and that their years together remain precious. Naming him a killer without remorse, tears streaming, Amon asks whether loving his father is really a sin. Donato is briefly stunned, then laughs through his own tears until he dies moments later.

Elsewhere, Touka Kirishima watches over the hospitalized Saiko Yonebayashi, who murmurs "Maman" while the CCG hunts the taxidermied Owl the Clowns built. Near one of the Dragon's oviducts, Kaneki and Kichimura Washuu face off. Kichimura sneers that Kaneki was only a sacrifice and wonders why he has come, guessing he means to stop the Dragon, but Kaneki cuts him off with a now far larger kagune that knocks the gas mask from his face. Rattled, Kichimura bolts, puzzled that Kaneki asks nothing about his schemes, and Kaneki says he does not care and gives chase. Cornered, Kichimura suddenly lashes out with a huge kagune from the dark, hurling Kaneki back and tearing off his mask too. Emboldened, he taunts Kaneki as a foolish thug playing hero who could never beat him, grinning that he is actually rather strong. Kaneki only rises and cracks a finger.
