:re Chapter 20

Kanae von Rosewald backs Mutsuki into a storage room. Placing him as the bidder from earlier, Mutsuki tells him to leave, while Kanae praises his eyes and holds back any insult so as not to demean the meal he intends to bring his master, saying he wants to confirm the taste. Meanwhile the Quinx fight alongside the Atou and Ooshiba squads at the entrance, and onlookers marvel as Sasaki's team dispatches the Aogiri grunts with ease. Some wonder why he never uses his kagune, and Atou is struck by how closely his movements echo Kishou Arima's.

The advance stalls when Nutcracker's partner attacks. Judging him a serious threat, Sasaki plans to team with Atou against him, then receives an order from Matsuri Washuu to push ahead. Uneasy but reassured by Atou, he leads his squad forward. Outside the Central Building the investigators are outmatched by Naki, Gagi, and Guge, and the arrival of Miza only tightens the pressure until Akira Mado joins wielding Fueguchi One. Akira and Naki lock eyes, and she wears an expression that mirrors her late father's. Word reaches Hinami that the lead investigator group is nearing the Grand Hall and that the spine user is among them; shaken, she still issues orders to release Ayato from guard duty and move the auction guests to the roof, then notices Saeki has gone.

Kanae wounds Mutsuki to taste his blood and is moved to tears, convinced he has found the perfect ingredient for his master, before Saeki bursts in and beats him bloody. Torso turns to Mutsuki in relief, but Mutsuki bolts; Saeki calls after him with an apology for the earlier beating. Refusing to let his target slip away, the battered Kanae runs Mutsuki through the abdomen with his kagune. At a hidden location, Akihiro Kanou watches the raid across banks of monitors and asks Eto whether the time has come to loose the Owl; she agrees and turns to Seidou Takizawa, who only grumbles that he is hungry.

The Quinx clear Aogiri grunts while Atou notes Sasaki's resemblance to Arima, and a formidable Nutcracker's partner slows the advance. Akira Mado enters the fight against Naki's group with Fueguchi One. Kanae samples Mutsuki's blood, is beaten by Saeki, and then impales the fleeing Mutsuki, as Kanou and Eto decide to release Takizawa as the Owl.

The chapter belongs to the second volume and carries the Japanese title Kaiten Idō. Shuu Tsukiyama, Kishou Arima, and Ayato Kirishima appear only through mention.
