His heightened senses telling him the Owl quinque is gone, Furuta stands over a defeated Eto and remarks on ghoul physiology while thanking Kanou for the operation that reshaped him. Slumped against a wall, battered, Eto asks whether his kagune came from Rize, and he confirms it. Furuta observes that she never verified anything about the One-Eyed King and says other matters demand his attention. When Eto probes his real aims, he declares he wants super peace, then dances off, leaving her baffled.
At Cochlea, Kaneki tells Arima the fight is finished now that Owl is broken, yet Arima keeps attacking with the ruined weapon. Mid-exchange he bridges the gap and runs Kaneki through the abdomen. Kaneki pleads that continuing is pointless. Stepping back and gazing upward, Arima says that in eighteen years as an investigator this is the first time he has stood helpless before an opponent. He asks once more whether Kaneki means to kill him, and Kaneki confirms it. Accepting the answer, Arima draws his blade across his own throat.
Furuta confirms his kagune originates from Rize and reveals his cryptic goal of super peace before leaving Eto defeated and confused. Arima impales Kaneki through the abdomen, then, acknowledging Kaneki's resolve to kill him, slashes his own throat.
