Grim is one of the spirited young men from Thorfinn's home village who dreams of proving his worth in battle. Caught up in the thrill of joining a raiding band, he sets out toward England alongside Thors, with no idea of how the veteran actually intends the trip to end.
Grim keeps his blond hair at a moderate length and looks out through grey eyes. His gear is that of an ordinary fighter of the age: a helmet worn together with a mix of chainmail and leather plating.
Like the other youths around him, Grim burns to be recognized as a real warrior and chases that ambition eagerly. His heart, meanwhile, is set firmly on Ylva.

Grim counts among the eager village boys who sail away from home in Thors's company, chasing the glory they expect to find in war. None of them realize that Thors means to turn them around under Leif Ericson's care well before the fleet ever nears England. When Askeladd's mercenaries fall upon the ship, it is Thors surrendering his own life that spares Grim and the rest of the youths.
